I say finally, but it came upon us so fast this year. While the days of the calendar rush towards December all year, when the season finally arrives, it blows by so fast. We get into this huge rush, the pace certainly picks up, and for us guys those two days of shopping (ok one day) you know of which day I speak. The last day. It can be really busy. Our minds stay occupied on what we have put off. Or the final touches around the house, gift wrapping, etc.
This morning is our first service at our church’s new home. If it was busy because of Christmas, it was doubly busy for the staff and volunteers at Catalyst Church. Today was not the original plan for the first service. It just worked out that way. The Lord in his providence planned it this way, and while there are a few glitches still, much like that first night of our saviors arrival nothing would stop the going forth of Gods plan. And how great a plan that is. Slow down for a moment and let’s just read a little bit in John to see Jesus step out of time to join us in his plan for saving us.
From John 1:1
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 He was in the beginning with God.
3 All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.
4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men.
5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.
7 He came as a witness, to bear witness about the light, that all might believe through him.
8 He was not the light, but came to bear witness about the light.
9 The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world.
10 He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him.
11 He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him.
12 But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God,
13 who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.
14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory (John 1:1, ESV)
Of course I added the bold emphasis. I wanted to illustrate not through my words or any crafting of sentences to show the power of this day. But to use the word alone to show the great gift that was given to us. That which we are about to celebrate. Enjoy this day. I look forward to seeing all your smiling faces at church. Let us remember the words of John.
And he dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory. Amen
